Folami and I have been friends for almost five years; we have been pregnant at the same time twice, been through good times and bad and have really just done life together. She has always been there when I’ve needed help with my kids or a listening ear to process through something. She’s got the warmest heart and she LOVES her kids. They are really everything to her and you can really tell. She inspires me with her strength of character and challenges me to be a better mommy. I was really blessed to spend some relaxed time taking snapshots of her and her family on a warm Boulder evening a few weeks ago. There are more photos up on my Facebook page – please take a look!
Saying Goodbye
A few years ago, I was about to welcome my youngest, Cody, into the world. I had spent two wonderful years at home alone with my oldest, Caleb, and really cherished those special moments together with him. Toward the end of my second pregnancy, I found myself saddened at the thought of us no longer being a family of three; it was all I knew and I really liked it! Of course now life is so much more full and fun with two little guys in our house and there is no way I would have it any different! My session with the Chatterton family a few weeks ago reminded me of that time in my life. They are a little family of three at home here in Colorado and adding a little boy to their family within the next few weeks. During our session, I really wanted to focus on their special little family unit and celebrate their bond just as it is during this time in their lives. Cami is such a beautiful mommy and they have such a gorgeous family. I had a hard time narrowing down which photos to show off! Here are a few of my favorites from our evening shoot.
Newborn Sessions
Who doesn’t love photos of a little one all curled up in a basket or wrapped tightly in a brightly colored wrap? I love capturing mommies and daddies with their fresh ones; what a special time in life! Not only do I come to these sessions with experience as a photographer, but also as a mom. I know how to soothe little ones and get them comfortable during his or her session. I also know how to relate to tired parents or moms that are juggling a new schedule or adjusting to dealing with two little ones instead of one. And the best part? You just need to invite me into your home and I’ll do the rest! I bring all my own props and materials to you. Have a favorite headband or beanie you want to use? All the better! I like to photograph newborns around two weeks old and prefer them au naturale for their session. Here are some sweet shots from a few recent newborn sessions with baby Lewis, baby Emily & baby Ava.
Ala Carte
I am that type of person that likes to have choices so that I can pick and choose what will work best for me; I carry that same attitude over to my photography services! For example, outside of my standard session fee, clients can choose to buy prints or a disc of images, it’s your choice! And my wedding clients start by selecting the number of coverage hours they would like (my wedding services start at $1250 for 4 hours) and then can add any number of options to their package: an engagement session, save-the-date cards, wedding invitations, canvas prints, etc. But by far, my most favorite ala carte option is a custom designed wedding album! Recently, I put together a 30-page, 10×10 album for previous clients, Jesse & Brittaney Campbell, which included a premium black leather cover, satin UV pages, and customized text throughout. My flush mount albums have thick lay-flat pages and no middle gutter so that no part of the layout is cut or missing. Here is a quick look at what a finished album page looks like! What a beautiful keepsake for years to come!
I Love Amore
I met Sheryl at MOPS (Moms of Preschoolers) last year and we became buddies as the year progressed and we got to know each other more. She is such a sweet person and is always up for an adventure with me! All this to say, I had never met her husband, Stefan, until our family session together this past week. Oh, how he has eyes for his wife! At one point of the session it was their turn to take photos together and they spiced up the woods with all their lovin’! I was in awe of their affection for each other and felt like I was taking engagement photos rather than family photos, or at least until I looked down from where I was shooting to see two little munchins enjoying their chocolate cookie treat! Way to go, you two for keeping the romance alive in your marriage! Here are some of my favorite shots of them from the session.
Waneka Lake
My littlest, Cody, is now 21 months old! I am holding a fall mini session event in a few weeks at Waneka Lake Park and wanted to try out this new location before the event, so we loaded the kids up in our Radio Flyer wagon and hiked over to the lake for a short evening shoot to document Cody’s life. What is pretty ironic is that Waneka is literally in my backyard and I have really only shot there professionally once. I absolutely loved the location and the lighting was just perfect. There were sooo many good photos of my little guy; I really couldn’t pick just a few to share with you! Here he is in all his cuteness. If you would like some similar photos done of your child(ren), make sure to sign them up for a time slot during my fall mini session event on September 11th. The smallest package is $50 and there is no additional session fee. It’s a perfect opportunity to get some beautiful shots of your kids in a natural setting! Getting Ready Details
One of my absolute favorite parts about photographing weddings are the details; specifically the special pieces of jewelry, the veil, the dress, the tie, the boutineer, and etc. I thought I would share a few of these “details” from a recent wedding I photographed in June for Brittaney & Jesse. There is a story in every detail. And a great red chair doesn’t hurt to have handy to enhance some of those details!
I met Brittaney & Jesse just just after they got engaged last December. Even then, Brittaney was counting the days until she got to marry her best friend. Brittaney & Jesse got married at the Hudson Gardens in Littleton, Colorado, on June 17, 2011. Brittaney and Jesse are a lovely couple and anyone who is around them definitely sees and feels the love they have for each other. May God bless you two and all the many, may wonderful years you will have together as husband and wife. Congrats Mr. & Mrs. Campbell!
Maggie is 50!
I had the pleasure of celebrating Maggie’s 50th birthday with her and all her friends in downtown Denver last weekend. She’s a hoot and her friends were a lot of fun to photograph! Besides the wine and super scrumptious Mexican fare for dinner, she had cupcakes, all the goodies to make smores, and of course, some champagne for celebrating! Take a look into her night of revelry and merrymaking!
And even I was invited to take a photo with the birthday girl! Hope your 50th year is a special one, Maggie, thanks for letting me tag along for your special night.
Motorcycle Lovin’
We took Liz & Larry’s engagement photos on campus at University of Colorado one afternoon after a brief morning snow storm. Thankfully, the weather was beautiful for our session and we got some great shots of the happy couple hanging out together and posing with their motorcycle. Liz explained that she wants to show her kids these photos some day and for them to see that their parents were cool and did fun things together. I just love these shots! Liz & Larry will be getting married in August in New Jersey. Congrats and happy wedding planning!
Brittaney & Jesse
Meet Brittaney & Jesse! Aren’t they a cute couple? The pair met during a Habitat for Humanity build sponsored by their church, Flatirons Community Church, just over a year ago and have been inseparable ever since. They are engaged to be married on June 17, 2011 and I feel really lucky that I get to be a part of their special day! For Brittaney and Jesse’s engagement shoot, we went to a local park for the first part and then also drove up to Longmont to a Habitat site and took some fun photos there at a house in process of being built. I love that they wanted to be playful and creative and take photos at a build site, just like the place they originally met. Congrats, Brittaney & Jesse!
